This summer has been absolute insanity, which explains the lack of activity here. However, there’s too much going on not to write about it in a spare moment.
Sarah Palin
If anyone has been watching the news in the last week or so, you’ve probably noticed the charge running through the Republican Party with the pick of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate. In about 5 minutes, she got most if not all of the conservative base not only behind the ticket, but excited about it. Finally, John did something right!
Last night, if we weren’t fired up already, she delivered a hard hitting, passionate speech that only made us love her more. The excitement last night was electric even for people who weren’t there. People like me who hated the McCain nomination are now excited that we have a strong leader in the VP slot.
Hurricanes
I’m one of those weird Florida natives who actually like hurricanes, and not having them in the summer honestly makes it boring. I think it’s ridiculous how big of a deal the media made with Gustav. I’ve gone outside in hurricanes more powerful than that. I also think it’s absurd that after Governor Jindal did a fantastic job of getting the people evacuated, we still felt that the Feds needed a stronger presence there because of what happened with Katrina. Now, the east coast is facing two powerful storms, but no one in the media is calling the President or FEMA or any other federal agency to come down and keep an eye on the storm and supply us with food and water and help us evacuate. Why does New Orleans get the world to stop for them when they’re hit, but Florida - who gets battered by hurricanes every year, more than Louisiana - doesn’t?
Honestly, it’s not the Fed’s job to come in and evacuate people from the state, that’s the Governor’s job. I think the reason that you don’t see such a big deal when any other gulf coast states get hit is because their Governors do their job just like Bobby Jindal did. The only reason Louisiana had so much publicity this year was because in 2005 when Katrina hit, they had a do-nothing Governor and a do-nothing Mayor in New Orleans. Unfortunately, the Mayor of New Orleans Ray “Chocolate City” Nagin, is still in office, but Jindal actually did his job, and did it well. Good job Governor!
The question still remains, however, why do these people still live in the bowl that is New Orleans and then complain about flooding? If you live under sea level and your leveys aren’t that much higher than sea level….it’s going to flood.
Life
Two months ago we found out mom was pregnant with number 10. Since she had a C-Section last year with Chay, and two stillborns years ago, we’ve had a hard time finding anyone who will take her as a patient/give her pre-natal care that isn’t intrusive. So we would greatly appreciate your prayers for her.
Personal Sundry
Ending on a personal note, this year so far has been crazy, I’m hoping to update more as time allows. I’ve gotten very involved in my church and I’m hoping to make some……big steps before I turn 18. Getting my driving time in something besides a 15 passenger van is one of those. I would greatly covet your prayers for God’s direction and guidance and for Him to move some of the mountains I’m facing.
