2007: A Year In Review
posted January 21st, 2008 in etc2007. It’s interesting how so many things can change in a year.
Politically:
We managed to survive with a Democrat controlled congress, and the surge in Iraq is working despite popular opinion.
We’ve had the earliest election season in history, and it just keeps getting more interesting.
Personally:
I somehow went from a career minded conservative, to accepting and developing a passion for the God ordained role of womanhood. Now at almost 17, I’m looking back on who I am and who I was, and have no one to thank but God for loving me so much and changing my heart. I’ve gone from being a legislative aid, to being a big sister for the 8th time, to courting my best friend, and trying to do what He sets in front of me to do.
Looking Ahead:
2008 promises to be an interesting year. For me personally, it’s going to be full of challenges. Figuring out how to deal with emotions is a totally new concept to me. A year ago, I would never have imagined that I would have been stretched and grown so much, I wouldn’t have thought that I would be courting, or taking trips to Maine, or even bowing out of grassroots campaigning indefinitely - especially with an election coming up. What seemed so inconceivable last year, has become accepted. In the words of Stellar Kart’s “Finish Last”:
People change and plans get changed and everything changes but You, everybody moves around and everything gets pushed around but You. You always stay the same…
So heading into 2008, the biggest thing for me to remember is - everything changes, but God never will.
I love how He changes our hearts, making us happy to do what He calls us to.
How merciful and wonderful He is!
May God bless you richly with peace and wisdom as you walk in His ways, girl!
“everything changes, but God never will” - amen
It’s been awesome watching everything going on in your life over the past year, and even better, getting to be involved in it in a way I’d hardly imagined happening so soon. It’s like a dream Kierstyn, and it’s a beautiful privilege.
Yay for 2008
That is an amazing song, and so true. What a year, eh?
We literally never know what’s around the bend. All we know is that even though it will change, He never will, and so everything’s okay in the end.
Praise God.
“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” - Isaiah 40:8
Greetings! I just discovered your blog. It seems I’m a lot like you: I’m 18 years old, a Christian homeschool graduate, and I too am “Politically Incorrect.”
When you say the troop surge is working, what do you mean? There is still Al-Qaeda in Iraq (which was NOT there bofore the 2003 invasion); there is still Sadr and all the other bad actors. The U.S. forces haven’t done much to really help the people of Iraq, except building a few lovely little schoolhouses to teach the kiddos about Darwinism, secular humanism, and the importance of condom use.
Not to mention that the war itself is a flagrant violation of international law, that it does nothing to combat terrorism (if Bush really wanted to fight a war on terror, he would have gone after SAUDI ARABIA), and that it’s part of an oil-fueled political agenda. Not to mention that the Congressional Republicans, who are ostensibly “pro-life”, can stand in solidarity with the Bush administration as 4,000 American soldiers are killed over a five-year period. Not to mention the 60,000 Iraqis and foreigners who have also died in this same ordeal.
Since the surge happened there might be five bombings per month, instead of ten like there were before it, but how many bombings were going on per month before the war started? ZERO…
