Retrospect
posted February 28th, 2007 in etcThis is what I want to master in the 16th year of my life:
Recently, I’ve been thinking alot in retrospect, history, and leaving a mark. When I stumbled across this quote:
“The past is our definition. We may strive, with good reason, to escape it, or to escape what is bad in it, but we will escape it only by adding something better to it.” (Wendell Berry)
It dawned on me that in order to make an impact, you can’t stop at one mark and you can’t get hung up on regrets. Instead, you have to keep going and add something more; because when you stop trying, you inevitably stop impacting.
Now, looking back on the last year, that’s really my goal and what I want to keep doing this year. I want to make a greater impact at age 16 than I did last year at age 15. I was looking back at 06 since January thinking “Wow, that was an amazing year…I wish I could repeat it” - I didn’t want to leave it. But 2006 and being 15yrs old is history now. I can’t keep waiting for another 06, I have to “add something better” to 07.
The worst thing that anyone who wants to leave a mark in history can do, is get hung up on the past. Whether it was good or bad, staying there will only hinder success. The past is where we learn our lessons, the future is where we apply our knowledge.
Very good!
May the Lord bless you as you pursue what He has for you!
Happy Birthday!
